Who Is Kristaps Porzingis?

He was born in Latvia on August 2, 1995. In his childhood, he grew up watching his parents as basketball players.

Kristaps’s father, Tlis, was a basketball player who made it to semi-pro sports, but later, he decided to drive buses. His mother, Ingrda, played basketball for the Latvian women’s young national team.

He was selected fourth overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. He played three seasons with the Knicks before being traded to the Mavericks in 2019. 

Porzingis is 7 feet 3 inches tall and plays both powers forward and center. He is one of only six current players in the NBA who are at least 7 feet tall and can shoot three-pointers, making him a “unicorn” in basketball terms. 

A talented shot-blocker and rebounder, he has also been praised for his shooting ability and ball-handling skills for a player his size. 

In 2020, he has entitled an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career. Porzingis has also represented Latvia internationally, winning silver medals at the FIBA EuroBasket 2015 and FIBA EuroBasket 2017 tournaments.

Approximately 15 years older than his younger sibling, Jnis, his older brother played professionally as well as was an ardent player.

In a 2017 E:60 documentary about Porziis’ life, his parents disclosed that they also had a son named Toms, who passed away at the age of 14 months and was born four years before Kristaps.
