Max Verstappen recently shared a story about meeting Prince Harry, and it’s not surprising that he wasn’t star-struck. Despite being a three-time Formula 1 champion, Max prefers a quiet life over mingling with famous people.
During the F1 United States Grand Prix, Prince Harry visited the Red Bull garage, maybe expecting more from the best driver on the grid. TIME Magazine described their meeting as a “quick greeting,” just an hour before the race started.
Max Verstappen, known for his straightforwardness, said, “I’m not a people pleaser. I mean, super nice guy. And it’s good to shake hands, say hello. But I’m here to do my job.”
His dad, Jos Verstappen, added a bit of humor, saying, “He should have come earlier.”
This reaction from Max isn’t surprising. Earlier this year, when Hollywood star Brad Pitt brought F1 filming to Silverstone, Max had a similar laid-back response. Pitt had his own fictional garage and drove a mock F1 car for a film produced by Lewis Hamilton.
Max said, “I completely can’t be bothered with this. In the end, a film is always made to create a little bit of a show in it. Because yes, of course, it won’t all be real. But I think it’s all fine. I’m actually not that much into it.”
In essence, Max Verstappen remains true to his no-nonsense attitude, whether meeting royalty or dealing with Hollywood glamour.
