This is an excellent achievement for VanDerveer and the sport, and it highlights her incredible talent and dedication towards making Stanford University’s basketball program one of the best in the country.

VanDerveer has been coaching at Stanford University for over three decades and has established herself as one of the most successful and respected coaches in basketball. She has led the Stanford Cardinal to two national championships. She has won numerous awards, including the John R. Wooden Award, which is given to the top women’s college basketball coach in the United States.

Her impact on the game has not just been limited to her success on the court. VanDerveer has also advocated for gender equity in sports and has paved the way for other women coaches to succeed in what is typically a male-dominated profession.

What they’re saying: “A legend of the game with an undeniable impact on the sport,” the Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball team said in a post to X after the 70-year-old VanDerveer’s achievement.
